JOB SUMMARY:
Jefferson County is seeking a Sewer Construction/Maintenance Supervisor. This role is responsible for directing and planning the administrative activities for the operation, construction, repair, and maintenance of Jefferson County sewer collection systems. Individuals in this job class consult with design engineers and others regarding system improvements and repairs, and participate in long range project planning (e.g., sewer improvement projects). Sewer Construction/Maintenance Supervisors often direct and coordinate the maintenance of sewer lines, field surveys for preliminary engineering studies, and/or the construction and installation of new sewer lines and systems. Work is reviewed through periodic inspections, reports, and documentation of completed projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Experience supervising personnel involved in the construction and/or maintenance of sanitary sewer collection systems.
Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document daily activities and manage workorders (e.g., Cityworks, Procore, ACCELA, Infor, Sims, Mission, etc.).
Experience reading/interpreting sanitary sewer plans/maps and specifications, including federal and state environmental regulations.
Experience inspecting sewer lines and other associated equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, manholes, etc.) to identify defects and determine appropriate repair or maintenance methods.
Experience resolving complaints from various individuals (e.g., property owners, contractors).
Driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by Jefferson County when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Possession of an Alabama Department of Environmental Management Wastewater 1C Certification (ADEM WW1C).
Work experience coordinating with engineers during pre-construction for drawing review services and during construction to provide modification recommendations.
Work experience performing land surveying or construction staking for municipal infrastructure projects.
Experience calculating overflow volumes, pipe grades, and/or area and volume calculations for construction materials.
Experience supervising four or more construction engineering inspectors (CEI) overseeing sanitary sewer construction.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
Determines resources needed and makes arrangements for work to be conducted by meeting with subordinate supervisors, providing general instruction, coordinating/meeting with contractors and other parties as needed to ensure adequate resources and supplies are available to perform work tasks.
Monitors, oversees, and/or inspects the work of crews involved with construction, installation, maintenance, and repair activities related to Sanitary Sewers.
Coordinates and monitors field work of external contractors participating in construction/repair activities on residential and commercial sewer lines, pump stations, and other sewer system equipment.
Ensures regular and routine maintenance of equipment and sanitary sewer facilities through inspections and communication with the maintenance department.
Performs administrative duties such as collecting and reviewing information, writing reports and researching equipment in order to maintain compliance with federal, state and county guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job occasionally involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Job May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted both indoors in an office setting as well as regular field visits to outdoor construction/maintenance worksites. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Work may also involve the use of various hand tools such as hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Workers may be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as near roadway traffic, etc.
