The City of Green Bay Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department is seeking a Mechanic at Bay Beach Amusement Park to perform work of moderate difficulty in the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and annual rehabilitation of the parks classic rides to meet the highest safety standards.
The successful candidate will have a moderate to strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to keep rides in operation. The successful candidate will have the ability to troubleshoot issues quickly to minimize downtime and have the ability to work independently as well as within a team to accomplish the desired goals.
Hiring Range: $30.01 - $33.55/hour dependent upon qualifications. Work Schedule : Operating season (approximately May-September) schedule is either 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for weekdays and either 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for weekends, dependent upon Bay Beach operating hours. Offseason schedule is Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (40 hours/week), plus additional hours for rotating weekends and overtime as required. No residency requirement . Examples of Duties- Performs full range of mechanical diagnosis, repair, and maintenance on all Bay Beach equipment including trucks, hi-rangers, amusement rides, power tools, and Bay Beach concessions appliances.
- Performs design and fabrication work including welding, machining, and cutting. Services fuel injection, fuel pumps, and filters.
- Performs general maintenance such as lubrication, changing tires, checking and changing fluids, hoses, belts, filters, and fans.
- Performs complete overhaul of engines/machines, inspects and diagnoses problems, making necessary repairs, completes reports and repair and supply orders, and creates and maintains necessary records.
- Performs inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of amusement park rides daily during the open season of Bay Beach; some inspections are performed at heights above 50 feet using fall-protection equipment. Performs inspection and maintenance of tow ropes. Performs layout, installation, and repair of railroad tracks and switches at Bay Beach; repairs and maintains miniature trains.
- Performs snow plowing as required.
- Trains new employees as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Satisfactory completion of one year technical training in mechanics.
- Three years' experience in a mechanical maintenance field.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain CDL endorsement within six months of hire.
- Must provide own set of tools.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems common to Park Department equipment, including diesel mechanics and welding techniques. Knowledge of all tools utilized in equipment, maintenance, and repair.
- Skill and ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, service manuals, and other reference materials. Skill and ability to fabricate and/or customize specialized equipment and tools.
- Ability to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of the hydraulic and electrical components of equipment. Ability to perform complete engine, transmission, pneumatics, and related vehicle component overhauls. Ability to operate equipment for maintenance. Ability to keep routine records. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
