The Supervisor, Distillery Maintenance is responsible for the daily maintenance operations of the distillery, ensuring that all equipment and systems operate efficiently. The role focuses on monitoring the execution of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance procedures, preventative & predictive maintenance, and providing support and training to maintenance team members. This role reports directly to the Manager, Distillery Maintenance. This position conducts job duties in a manner that demonstrates a strong food safety culture which ensures the safety and quality of our products. Summary/ Objective The Supervisor, Distillery Maintenance is responsible for coordinating the installation, repair, and upkeep of the infrastructure within the distillery to support key performance indicators (KPIs) withing the department. The infrastructure includes mechanical/electrical systems, machines, facilities, and grounds. The Maintenance Supervisor assists all distillery departments with day-to-day maintenance activities and processes, overall facility maintenance improvements, and boiler operations. The maintenance supervisor leads maintenance to ensure plant operates at a reliable level for operations to achieve the highest efficiency while minimizing operating cost.
Essential Functions Time Allocations Major Responsibilities 90% Distillery Maintenance Operations
  • Daily supervision of the Distillery Maintenance operations and team of 5 maintenance team members, 5 boiler operators, 2 yards & grounds and 1 stockroom team member.
  • Supervise, schedule, assign, and review the work completed by the maintenance personnel related to Key Performance Indicators of Safety, Quality, and Production
  • Monitor and report KPIs that pertain to maintenance of the facility.
  • Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition of maintenance shop to ensure satisfactory working conditions.
  • Offer process changes to standard operating procedures and work instructions as required.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams for problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support continuous improvement and root cause analysis processes related to maintenance and performance of all site and equipment maintenance
  • Report to management on work execution status, system/line reliability issues, concerns, and desires.
  • Coordinate and manage various 3rd party contractors.
  • Daily communication with operations team regarding all facets of maintenance and safety aspects of the operations
  • Create maintenance activity records, downtime records, machine inspection records, and inventory records for preventative maintenance planning and continuous improvement projects.
  • Execute maintenance and operations team’s shutdown maintenance periods.
  • Ensure accurate and up to date work instructions and SOPs for all preventative maintenance process and any other reoccurring task.
  • Support CAPEX project implementation through routine review of project schedules, assignments, and budgets
  • Utilize Four Roses Computerized Maintenance Management System (Limble) to collect data and optimize Preventative Maintenance Work Order execution
  • Implement & Support 5s systems.
  • Implement & Support SQF Food Safety
Maintenance Supervision
  • Schedule and supervise team of maintenance team members with diverse skills, team of yards and grounds team members, stockroom, and Boiler Operators and ensures that all work is performed in a safe manner
  • Executes and assists in making schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, scope, and skill of personnel.
  • Counsel team members about work-related issues and assist team members to correct job-skill deficiencies
  • Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
  • Assist in documenting compliance with environmental regulations and issues pertaining to: Chemical use, Emissions, pH levels – with city sewer, Water Outfalls, Fire Pump and fire system, Landfarming and various other regulatory reports, others where applicable
  • Urgently react to environmental release events or issues to ensure compliance with federal and state permits
  • Monitor data from on-site wastewater treatment facility and escalate as needed
  • Support the Company’s overall environmental initiatives.
  • Assist with maintaining records for Wastewater, Air Quality, Sewer, Landfarm permit compliance.
Facility Maintenance
  • Execute site facility preventative maintenance plans and routines.
  • Supervise work on all grounds and buildings.
  • Coordinates and manages all Facility Landscaping / Lawn Service contracts and projects.
  • Assist in monitoring work janitorial service contracts for all the site buildings.
Quality and Production
  • Understand quality standards and the impact of maintenance activities on quality
  • Coordinate with the quality team on any needed PM task.
  • Understand basics of the operation and production of Bourbon distillate, Grain Handling, Cooking, Yeasting, Fermentation, Distillation and Shipping of Distillate.
Human Resources
  • Supervise manpower as required to efficiently execute the operating schedule for the distillery.
  • Assign and supervise overtime work as determined by distillery operation needs
  • Manage new hire onboarding and training, ensure they have been trained and signed off on all aspects of their role, including team members who’ve accepted new job bids.
  • Review and approve timecards on a weekly basis in ADP.
  • Review and approve all shift trades and time off request in ADP.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of all direct reports and apply disciplinary procedures as necessary.
  • Investigate all performance-related issues ensuring proper documentation and escalation as needed
  • Administration of the Union Handbook & Contract in a consistent and fair manner.
  • Acts as 1st step lead for the grievance process, working to resolve grievances at this level
  • Provide back up support to Distillery Supervisor.
Plant Safety
  • Works to encourage a culture of safety, with continuous improved safe work practices
  • Work to prevent safety hazards, respond quickly to any safety issues, ensure proper maintenance of plant equipment for continued safe operation
  • Works with the Safety, Health and Security Manager to maintain an emergency response plan for facility and ensure compliance with OSHA standards
  • Implement emergency response plan for facility and ensure compliance with OSHA standards
  • Monitor and inspect entire facility for safety compliance
  • Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings for HR.
  • Identify, prioritize and provide resources to assist meeting plant goals and objectives.
Risk Management and Compliance
  • Keep current on TTB rules and regulations
  • Keep current on EPA/KYDAQ (and it various agencies) rules and regulations
Minor Responsibilities 20% Sales Promotion & Cross-Functional Initiatives
  • Periodically gives tours of distillery to VIP guests

Required Education and Experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Facility Management, or other related degree preferred.
  • 2 years in a supervisory experience with a maintenance manufacturing setting
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience in maintaining, installing and repair or industrial equipment
  • Experience handling blueprints, specifications and schematics
  • Experience developing maintenance schedules and working within budgets
  • Experience with quality systems, HACCP, and GMP’s
  • Must have availability for outside normal schedule calls/report to facility
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in spirits industry or food or drink production facility
  • Experience in a union environment
Job Related Information Supervisory Responsibility The Supervisor, Distillery Maintenance oversees the supervision of union maintenance, yards and grounds, stockroom, and F&O distillery team members. Work Environment This job operates 80% in the plant manufacturing environment and 20% in an office environment. Travel Travel may be required between Kentucky locations. Travel could be required to other sites, cities, or countries to learn more about specific or general operations, equipment, or methods.
