WORK SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
JOB SUMMARY
Maintain the electrical systems and equipment of Southern Nazarene University's physical plant in good condition and working order, to create a safe and suitable environment for learning and living. Under the supervision of the electrical supervisor and/or officials responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of plant maintenance and operation work, perform the duties peculiar to, and normally required in, the trade of electrician, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Including, but not limited to:
- Installation of new and additional electrical work, remodeling, etc.
- Maintenance and repair of fixtures, motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, etc.
- Installation of electrical conduit/wiring for new equipment and fixtures
- Understand the electrical symbols and interpretation of building and electrical prints.
- Troubleshoot elements of electrical systems to isolate defects in wiring, blown fuses, short circuits, defective switches, etc, and to locate obvious faults in motors and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments.
- Replace faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances.
- Must be able to handle and read a variety of hand tools and meters.
- As required, estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.
- Will have some supervisory duties if a helper is assigned to assist in the work of the electrician.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to operate office equipment.
- Ability to provide quality customer service.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

- An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity.
- Must have and maintain a Journeyman Electrician License.
- Thorough knowledge of codes pertaining to maintenance and installation of electrical systems.
- High school, technical or trade school graduate, or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of related work experience and/or relevant training.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fast-paced work environment. Typing and spelling competency.
- Experience with various computer software applications.
- Work is medium. Lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls a variety of electrical materials such as cables, conduits, fixtures, and equipment.
- Must be able to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to, with assistance, move and transport heavier materials and equipment.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment
- Must be able to perform all job functions, including but not limited to: bending, squatting, stretching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting 50 pounds unassisted (200 pounds with others assisting), must be able to push or pull heavy loads, fixtures and equipment.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and from heights
- Must be able to climb ladders, work from lifts, scaffolding, and high platforms; balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to electrical wiring, etc.
- Needs good dexterity in small tedious work and coordination in heavier demanding tasks.
- Needs good near-visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision in making connections, soldering, splicing wires, and reading a variety of hand tools and meters.
- Required to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college coursework
- Experience in higher education
- At least five years in the commercial electrical trade in maintenance or construction, a plus.
Supervision Received:
Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.
Supervision Exercised:
May be responsible for coordinating work assignments for helpers.
