Construction Project Manager - Electric Utility (onsite)

Location: Augusta, ME
Employment Type: 12months - 18 months

About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Construction Project Manager to oversee field construction operations for electric utility infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, and generation upgrades. This role is critical in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage field construction teams and contractors across multiple utility infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee contractor performance, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Coordinate field inspections, sign-offs, and ensure compliance with construction standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to align construction activities with project goals.
  • Provide constructability feedback on electrical, mechanical, protection, and civil engineering standards.
  • Identify and mitigate construction risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support emergency response efforts related to substation and transmission line systems.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards (e.g., NERC, FERC, CIP).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in construction management within the electric utility industry.
  • Strong understanding of substation, transmission, and generation systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Project (or equivalent tools).
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites regularly.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the electric utility sector.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external contractors.
  • Familiarity with regional utility standards and joint planning with other utilities.
