Staff Electrical Engineer - Protection Applications (Southeast Region)
Description
The Staff Electrical Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Staff Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
Executes complex assignments requiring the use of advanced electrical engineering techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
Coordinate departmental or divisional project studies, reports, or project design assignments.
Responsible for performing power system studies and system protection settings coordination on various projects (Up to 500-kV voltage level).
Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and generate native relay configuration files.
Conduct design reviews, and support quality control.
Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design for the projects.
Train, guide, and mentor less experienced team members.
Support business development and marketing initiatives.
Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field plus three (3) years of experience in electrical systems studies in the electric utility or industrial power distribution industry.
Will accept a Master's degree plus two (2) years of related experience in lieu of Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of related experience.
Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer licensure.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Previous experience in development of protective relay settings in Transmission, or Distribution industry.
Prior experience in commonly utilized system modelling software programs (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM, etc.)
Knowledge of protection schemes and philosophies commonly applied at Transmission, and Distribution substations.
Developing native relay setting files using SEL's AcSELerator and GE's Enervista software programs.
Ability to read and interpret electrical single lines, three lines, schematics, functional diagrams, etc.
Designing calculations, including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, over-current element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay loadability calculation.
Ability to perform Grounding, Arc Flash, and other Power system studies is a plus.
Providing engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations.
