The boiler operator shift rotates with three other workers to ensure full 24/7 boiler coverage.
Job Summary
To operate low and high pressure steam boilers to maintain sufficient steam and hot water as required throughout the facility. Must take extra precautions when working in patient care areas and specifically keep tools out of the reach of children. Must possess basic mechanical knowledge and show competence in the use of hand tools, meters, measuring devices and gauges. Ability to work from blueprints, schematics and technical manuals helpful. Must be able to explain conditions and situations accurately while troubleshooting, and function with safety, morale and efficiency of the department in mind. Ability to work all shifts and hours as scheduled. Will require shift work. Must comply with all corporate and facility policies and dress code. Must understand written and verbal communications. Good written and oral communications skills required. Works independently with minimal supervision. Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances. Depending on facility size, additional duties may include but are not limited to: perform installation and maintenance of mechanical and stationary systems, including boiler operations, to ensure a safe and efficient environment; maintain campus grounds and perform other outside maintenance duties; perform general duties such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and bed repair, preventative and reactive maintenance.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent is preferred; trade school or vocational training preferred.
Mechanical background resulting from formal training or through previous employment required. Must be familiar air-ventilation systems, heating and cooling systems, fire protection systems, minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. Must have organizational skills. Knowledge of common power and hand tools. Must have basic computer knowledge. Must be familiar with all state and local codes regarding boilers.
Must have a minimum of First Class B boiler operator license. Must possess valid drivers license and be insurable.
