Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor leads and manages the Maintenance Department, overseeing a team of approximately 20 Maintenance Technicians and Apprentices across a 3-shift operation in a plastic tubing extrusion and assembly facility. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and safety of all production equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor develops and implements maintenance strategies, preventive and predictive programs, and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and support operational goals. This position reports directly to the Facility Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, schedule, and supervise the daily activities of the multi-shift maintenance team, ensuring effective coverage and timely response to equipment breakdowns and repairs.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for extrusion and assembly machinery, production support equipment, and facility systems critical to operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to coordinate maintenance activities that minimize production downtime and optimize equipment performance.
  • Manage maintenance work orders, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources efficiently using CMMS or other maintenance management tools.
  • Oversee maintenance inventory and spare parts management to ensure availability of critical components while controlling costs.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for recurring equipment failures, applying continuous improvement and Lean maintenance principles.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies related to maintenance activities, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and environmental standards.
  • Mentor, train, and develop maintenance staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Support capital projects related to equipment upgrades, installation, and facility modifications in partnership with the Facility Manager and external contractors.
  • Monitor maintenance KPIs such as equipment uptime, mean time to repair (MTTR), and maintenance cost per unit to drive performance improvements.
  • Participate in budget preparation and cost control for the maintenance department.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastic extrusion, hose assembly, or related industries.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multi-shift maintenance teams (15+ direct reports preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance best practices, preventive and predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance.
  • Experience with CMMS software (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, extrusion equipment, and assembly machinery is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, electrical codes, and environmental regulations as they apply to maintenance operations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb ladders, and perform hands-on mechanical and electrical work.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed.
  • Must be able to use standard maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively.

Work Environment

  • This position operates primarily in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
  • The role requires flexibility to support all three shifts as needed.
