Summary of Position
Responsible for the year-round maintenance of county highways.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Plow snow on county highway system
Mow grass along county highways
Install and maintain culvert pipes
Oil and chip county highways
Work on ditches and drainage projects
Haul dirt and rock
Trim trees and spray vegetation
Stripe roadways
Operate Highway Department equipment
Work on Highway Department equipment
Flag traffic
Manage day to day tasks assigned by Supervisors
Subject to random drug testing as a CDL requirement
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent, one (1) year related experience, a valid driver's license for pre-employment, and obtain (within 90 days of employment start) and maintain a Class "A" CDL are required.
Physical Requirements
Stand for extended periods of time. The employee is required to walk or move on even or uneven, loose and/or sloped terrain possibly for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to safely climb steps, ladders or slopes while carrying up to 40 pounds. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. The employee is required to be able to see and hear and respond quickly to hazards. The ability to work in extreme weather. The ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day. Able to get into and out of heavy construction equipment and operate said equipment safely.
