Maintenance Mechanic

This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment, boilers, compressed air systems, WFI & DI water systems, and piping. This will include equipment for facilities & manufacturing equipment. Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Facilities & Utilities onsite. Conducting assigned PMs, and equipment logs daily, and all other maintenance work per the schedule and per SOPs. Completes formal documentation of all work performed. Contacts and oversees outside services when required.

Environmental, Safety, Health (ESH) & Quality Compliance

  • Maintenance work performed must meet all Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements. Work on this type of equipment must be documented correctly.
  • STOP any job that cannot be completed safely or within the existing policies/procedures.
  • Follow all site safety policies and procedure requirements while performing any tasks.
  • Participate in team safety meetings and developing safety action plans within the team.
  • Perform all work that meets cGMP and Good Documentation Practices.

Facilities Maintenance

  • Provide preventive maintenance and troubleshooting for all facility-related equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, compressors, depyrogenation oven, autoclave, isolators, etc., as well as general facility maintenance including lights, piping, restrooms, and misc. request. Position will multi-skill with other on site core crafts such as electricians, HVAC and engineers to make sustainable repairs for longevity.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance on equipment to keep it in good operational condition.
  • Perform troubleshooting for all electrical, instrumentation, & controls for facilities and manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform seal changes for manufacturing equipment.
  • Exhibit Pipefitting skills such as, basic fabrication, threading, and repairs.
  • Expert knowledge in motors, bearings and seals.
  • Perform laser alignment of motor shafts and have knowledge of vibration analysis.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing process equipment.
  • Able to operate facilities equipment and systems.
  • Expert knowledge of the building Fire Protection Systems.
  • Maintain documentation and history of repairs in compliance with cGMP/GDP documentation practices.
  • Perform assigned projects in a timely manner and by communicating needs and timing with end users.
  • Evaluate new installations to ensure site standards are met and maintained.
  • Responsible for maintenance and water samples of all clean water systems located at facilities. To include Pre-treatment skid, water softener system, DI water, RO system and WFI (Water for Injection).
  • Perform daily & weekly maintenance rounds and review reports and report findings to the Facilities/Reliability Engineer.
  • Perform Boiler take down and coordinate required PMs and State inspections.
  • Make appropriate suggestions and corrections to discrepancies found in documentation, drawings, BOMs/parts lists, procedures, work instructions, etc.
  • Provide job knowledge and skills to support process improvement and special projects.
  • Work with a variety of individuals, such as engineers, operators, craftspeople, automation, and other resources on process upgrades and equipment changes.
  • Provide input to engineering on design, installation, and maintenance of new equipment.
  • Perform other duties as may be required by supervisor including multi-tasking.
  1. Qualifications Must have 3-5 years experience in preventive maintenance and repair of various mechanical equipment and facilities equipment.
  • Must have extensive training and experience in troubleshooting, repair of equipment, maintenance best practices.
  • Must have experience in pipe fitting.
  • Expert in troubleshooting & repair of mechanical / industrial equipment (i.e. motors, fans, boilers, pumps, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of fluid dynamics (i.e. oils and coolants).
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings.
  • Experience and Basic knowledge of manufacturing process equipment.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience working with Boilers and Mechanical Equipment.
  • Demonstrated performance in troubleshooting and maintaining facilities equipment such as motors, vacuum pumps, fans, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Water systems to include Pharmaceutical clean water systems desired.
  • Understanding of Waste water treatment and storage systems.
  • Must have working experience & knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Overtime, On-call, and weekends as required to support operations.
  • Sound judgment; ability to be flexible.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word, Lotus Notes (Email), CMMS, etc.
  • Works well in team environment and with cross-functional teams.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience working in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology or similar industry is desired.
  • Must have High School diploma and minimum of 3-5 years working experience in a maintenance field and/or department.
  • Preferred Technical Certification from a trade school.
