About This Position:

The overall function of this position is to troubleshoot and perform diagnostic and complete overhaul or repair on department equipment. This position is located in Section 42, Unit 071- Central Repair Shop of the DOTD and reports directly to the Mechanic Supervisor B. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

+ Performs the duties enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Master mechanics, Responsible for diagnostic and complete overhaul or repair on automobiles, trucks, buses, light, heavy, mobile, and stationary equipment which have gas, diesel engines, air conditioners, computer, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, steering and all other mechanical features.

+ Performs leader man functions over subordinate Mechanic 3s, Mechanic 2s, Mechanic 1s, Apprentices and Helpers. Employee will advise them in solving the different electronic and mechanical problems.

+ Directs the sequence of work and assigns subordinates, inspects work performed by subordinates and trains subordinates. This employee will inspect the work performed by each subordinate to be sure that work is done properly. Employee will train subordinates in the proper use of analyzers and also in the safety aspects of the job performance.

+ Resolves technical problems. Assists mechanics in solving unforeseen problems which arise during the course of their work.

+ Keeps records as required. Assist mechanics' in preparation of work orders. Assures the adequate supplies and equipment are available for subordinates. Employee will keep record of the work being performed and will check same to see that work was performed adequately. Employee will instruct his subordinates as to the records that need to be completed and assure that these records are given to the clerk to process. This position will also check the stockroom and parts store to assure adequate supplies are on hand for an efficient shop operation. He will assure that the shop equipment and tools are in good working order at all times and available for these subordinates.

+ Responsible for ensuring that correct parts researched and ordered for replacement if required. Maintains that paperwork is approved prior to start of job. Assures that all work is being performed efficiently and completed properly.

Operates equipment after repairs to ensure equipment functions in an acceptable manner.
