The Bank of America Architecture & Engineering Core Networking team is responsible for the development of complex networking solutions deployable into the banks regional, international and metropolitan backbone packet and metropolitan optical transport networks. This team consists of highly motivated self-directed individuals who exceed performance expectations in a large and challenging workplace.

Job Description:
This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution that supports the strategic outcomes of the Business' Products and Services. Key responsibilities include defining the target operating environment, designing for client resiliency, assisting with solution design, and defining non-functional requirements. Job expectations include working with stakeholders and service providers aligned to the Business' strategic objectives, evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions, and contributing to the architecture roadmap.

Responsibilities:

  • Works across the business, operations and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services
  • Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates
  • Clarifies the architecture, assists with system design to support implementation, and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
  • Facilitates solution driven discussions, leads the design of complex architectures, and finds creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable
  • Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
  • Supports the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and helps select preferred technology products
  • Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture development for large complex networking solutions for new and existing networks
  • Support the Product Management team in the maintenance of hardware and software life-cycle roadmaps
  • Support initiatives that drive topology and capacity alterations to the core level networks
  • Development of architectural whitepapers, product guides and standards-based documentation
  • Develop of global IP routing designs and standards
  • Develop Quality-of-Service policy templates and configurations
  • Evaluation of emerging networking technologies
  • Interface with engineering, operational and lab/certification teams
  • Provide financial input for new initiatives and conduct financial analysis of comparative solutions
  • Support operational root cause analysis for network impacting events

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in Telecommunications, Data Communications or Computer Science
  • 10+ Years of experience in LAN/WAN networking
  • 10+ Years Cisco routing and switching experience
  • Must have prior architecture and/or architecture group lead experience
  • Architecture experience within a large service provider is preferred
  • Strong knowledge and configuration skills of routing protocols to include: ISIS and BGP
  • Must demonstrate strong experience with IP multicast, Route Reflectors, MPLS, LDP, Segment Routing (SR-MPLS), L2VPN and L3VPN (Unicast/Multicast)
  • Familiarization with data center protocols such as EVPN & VXLAN
  • Familiarization with optical transport technologies such as CWDM, DWDM, OTN and ROADM technology
  • Knowledgeable with QoS concepts and queuing strategies, experience with QoS configurations, diagnosing and tuning of QoS and performing bandwidth analysis
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills in a complex multi-layered network environment
  • Excellent customer service skills including reporting, organization, written and oral communication and task prioritization
  • Must be a highly motivated, self-directed individual capable of supporting multiple large initiatives
  • Candidate must have strong program management skills necessary to lead multi-discipline technology teams
  • Experience working under tight deadlines and high pressure environments
  • Capable of quickly learning new technologies and procedures
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCIE routing certifications or equivalent work experience required
