What You’ll Do:

  • Operate a variety of saws including CNC band saws, manual band saws, cold cut saws, and circular saws to cut metal bars, sheets, and tubes to precise specifications
  • Read and interpret job specifications, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machine setup and cutting requirements
  • Set stops, guides, and layout marks to ensure accurate cuts
  • Use overhead cranes to safely unload materials and position them in storage or cutting areas
  • Perform quality checks by measuring cut parts and inspecting for defects or irregularities
  • Remove burrs, rust, and sharp edges from finished pieces
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as oiling machines and cleaning work areas
  • Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements and support 5S initiatives
  • Communicate any discrepancies or quality concerns to appropriate departments to ensure customer satisfaction

What We’re Looking For:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read blueprints and use measuring tools
  • Strong attention to detail and safety
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a team environment

SUMMARY

Tends fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, horizonal saws, vertical saws, and cold cut saws that cut, bars, sheets, and tubes by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine set-up and program.
  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
  • Positions work piece properly into machinery, against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
  • Uses overhead crane to unload trucks and position material into storage location.
  • Marks and identifies material as specified by work instructions.
  • Sets up and operates machine to cut parts preparatory to machining centers and assembly.
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, or work pieces.
  • Operates cutting equipment including but not limited to: CNC band saws, manual band saws, circular cutting saws, cold cut saws, table saws, sanding disks.
  • Show adequate progress towards learning the operation of all the machinery in the fabrication area.
  • Look for continuous improvement opportunities and improves operational efficiencies.
  • Responsible for checking the accuracy of engineering, sales and manufacturing offices' input to ensure customer final product is correct and within quality acceptance guidelines. Any changes or corrections must be communicated to appropriate departments so future product output is consistent with customer expectations.
  • Understands, supports, implements and sustains 5S program initiatives and goals.
  • Is flexible in working areas and will be assigned to other duties and work areas as needed.
  • Supports and upholds the quality and EHS policy.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
