POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to support our Merritt Island, FL location. The person hired for this position will be supporting our long-term Florida contracts for the Air Force (Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Patrick Space Force Base, and Homestead Air Reserve Base), NASA, and regional EPA projects. This position will be responsible for leading technical execution in design/implementation of feasibility studies, treatability studies, civil and remedial system design, and support during construction. Projects may include in-situ thermal treatment, contaminated soil and sediment removal, groundwater treatment, and operation and maintenance.

This full-time role will work a hybrid schedule in our Merritt Island, FL office, three days per week in-office and two days per week from home. There may also be occasional travel to field sites.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Preparation of remediation work plans, remedial designs, and project deliverables.
  • Supervising and supporting environmental and engineering projects and tasks, involving the characterization and remediation of impacted soil, sediment, and groundwater.
  • Construction duties may include oversight of civil and environmental aspects related to remediation projects or the construction of soil and groundwater treatment systems.
  • Manage and provide technical support, and client/regulatory interaction during investigation, design, remediation implementation, and completion (as-built) project phases.
  • Preparation of multiple project documents including RD/RA Workplans, focused CMS, Statement of Basis, and Construction Completion Reports.
  • Managing project schedules and budgets.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • 6+ years’ experience in the environmental engineering field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, internal and external stakeholders, including technical presentations at client and regulatory meetings.
  • Strong writing skills with prior experience directing and contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memorandums, and work plans.
  • Coordination of field subcontractors for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities. The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, EPA, or RCRA project/site.
  • Professional Engineering registration with ability to obtain Florida professional registration within one year.
  • Possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment.

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

  • Experience working on U.S. federal contracts.
  • Experience with investigation and remediation of various contaminants of concern including volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, petroleum, and PCBs.
  • Preparation of engineering technical specifications and designs.
  • M.S. degree in engineering with a focus in Environmental Studies or related field.

The salary range for this position ranges from $71,868 - $107,801. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
