This position is for the program manager of the Retail Capacity program. The Retail Capacity program consists of nearly 300 projects in various stages, all funded by Distribution and executed by Transmission. The total annual forecast for the program is typically between $150M and $300M, and it is about $300M in 2025. Retail Capacity projects include work inside a substation, such as new equipment to increase capacity, bank additions, new greenfield substation and transmission tap line projects, and land and right of way acquisitions. This role is part of Region Services in Power Grid Operations and supports both Carolinas East and West (both DEC and DEP).
ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with the Distribution Capacity Planning engineering groups and Transmission project teams to understand and communicate required scopes, priorities, and in-service dates for projects in development and execution.
Act as the Sr. Sponsor for Retail Capacity projects.
Partner with Capacity Planning, Transmission, the Enterprise Capital Optimization (ECO) team, Rates and Regulatory, and Finance to ensure 5-year ECO requests and MYRP are entered, validated, and updated throughout the capital planning cycle.
Provide direction to Distribution Project Controls specialists to set and adjust current year forecasts and to Transmission PMs to adjust cashflows to achieve desired spend.
Collaborate with and support Distribution Capacity Planning lead engineers as necessary, such as maintaining the Tier 1 capacity need date tracker, addressing and escalating issues as necessary, etc.
Present program status and unique issues to leadership as necessary.
Concisely communicate program status in monthly zone-level Project Execution Reviews (8 zones), monthly finance calls, and through written reports.
Required/Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree AND
5 years minimum required related experience
In Lieu of Degree, High School / GED AND 9 years minimum required related experience
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Engineering
Master's degree in Business Administration or Project management
In addition to desired degree, 8 plus years related work experience
Project Management Professional and/or Professional Engineer

Proficient to demonstrated Expertise in Project Management, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving
Project related work experience; Risk Management, Project Leadership, Strong Collaboration, Oversight
Utility Business Unit Experience as determined by BU ranging from Regulated or Commercial energy services experience
Construction Management knowledge
Proficient to Expert in project related Scheduling, Cost Controls
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
