This position is accountable/responsible for the safe and efficient performance of any mechanical repairs updates and upgrades made to all equipment related to plant production and/or plant operations. This position works in a team environment and is required to assist others as necessary, but must have demonstrated skills as a self-starter and be self-directed. This position must ensure themselves and their team members follow all our ISO9001, GMP and EH&S policies and procedures.

Specific Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the plant and packaging equipment through performing general mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance. Handles daily equipment inspections, maintenance and repairs, shift log paperwork
  • Troubleshoots & makes appropriate repairs and coordinates appropriate repairs and maintenance to ensure continuous production; offers insight, expertise and assistance to other team members
  • Reconstructs and modifies existing equipment to meet manufacturing, safety, and efficiency standards to improve plant efficiency
  • Supports the installation and validation of new and/or transferred equipment coming into the facility. Leads line set up and dismantle initiatives
  • Designs, constructs and installs plant fixtures, structures, special purpose mechanical devices and production equipment attachments as required
  • Performs general building repairs as required
  • Maintains equipment logs, documents equipment defects and repairs, records shift activities and unusual conditions and reports such to area supervisor or other maintenance personnel
  • Cleans and sanitizes line equipment and changes parts to meet manufacturing & warehouse protocol
  • Train and support work center operators (WCOs) in all aspects of set-up and running of the equipment
  • Follow all our IS09001, GMP and EH&S policies and I or procedures
  • Will meet efficiency standards established for the position while ensuring internal/external customer requirements are met or exceeded
  • Will participate on teams and/or committees as required
  • Any and all other duties as may be assigned

Minimum Education Requirements: Valid Industrial Millwrights certification

Minimum Experience Required: 5 to 7 years experience

Preferred Job Skills:

  • Robotic training/programming
  • Knowledge of chemicals and chemical handling procedures
  • basic computer navigation skills (MS Office etc.)

Special skills, and related knowledge:

  • licensed millwright; post-secondary and/or millwright apprenticeship
  • expert mechanical knowledge gained through a minimum 5 - 7 years maintenance mechanical support in a manufacturing environment (strong hydraulic, pneumatic and logic controls background is required for this role)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills on all production and related machinery.
  • demonstrated proficiency in the use of machining, weld equipment, shop equipment and a wide variety of portable/hand tools.
  • Work with engineering team in designing and implementing needed modifications.
  • When required, work with contracted help from other trades to ensure maintenance tasks are completed.
  • ability to meet physical/functional demands of the job (positions are awarded contingent on the completion of a successful medical with a Company-designated physician)
