While reporting to the Shift Supervisor for Plant Maintenance, perform tasks and provide services to support the plant's overall business plans and objectives as directed. What You'll Be Doing: Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required. Supports and follows the SQF (Safe Quality Food) guidelines of the food safety system. Follows company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco's Global Code of Conduct. Assist with the installation, operation, testing, adjustment, and repair of conventional and automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments. Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines using lathes, milling machines, grinders, etc. Interpret specifications and ensure conformance through measurement, testing, and inspection. Set up, operate, and adjust mechanical production equipment to meet customer and business requirements. Perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and rebuilds on production equipment. Conduct inspections of in-process materials and finished goods; perform recordkeeping duties as required. Instruct and train assigned personnel on equipment operation and maintenance procedures. Maintain a safe and secure work environment by identifying and correcting unsafe conditions, participating in safety meetings, and investigating incidents as required. Perform changeovers and ensure the equipment is operationally efficient afterward. Handle routine building maintenance and repair. Maintain and store hand tools; ensure proper handling of hazardous material storage and waste. Communicate shift information clearly and collaborate with leadership as needed. We'd love to hear from you if: Solid working knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, machining procedures, and layout. Ability to use hand and power tools, read engineering drawings, and operate a computer. Strong aptitude for mechanical reasoning and diagnostic skills. Ability to read precision tolerances (e.g., capable of holding .0001). Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize tasks effectively. Skilled in manual dexterity and capable of standing for long periods. Proficient in performing mathematical calculations and maintaining detailed records. Able to handle proprietary and sensitive information confidentially. Demonstrated ability to instruct and train others. Familiarity with hazardous waste protocols and environmental compliance through scheduled training.
