Position Overview:

A well-established and continually growing general contractor in the Chicago area is seeking a skilled Commercial Construction Estimator to join its preconstruction team. This is a key role responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of commercial construction projects across diverse sectors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in an environment where collaboration and precision are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects from concept through final bid

• Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and scopes of work

• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing

• Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients during the preconstruction phase

• Develop and maintain unit cost databases and historical cost records

• Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering alternatives

• Assist in bid presentations and proposals

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience as a construction estimator, preferably in commercial, multifamily or light-industrial construction

• Strong knowledge of estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, Procore, etc.)

• Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specs

• Solid understanding of construction means and methods, materials, and local codes

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
