Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $85580 - $113451.8. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&Cs annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as a Design Engineer!

Are you passionate about Product Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Underground-Product Engineering department. As a Design Engineer, youll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

S&C is the specialist in high-voltage switching, protection and control providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. Product Engineering-Underground is responsible for S&C's underground distribution products, including MPG, Vista UDS, and Vista SD. In this position you will report to the Assistant Manager-Product Engineering in the Underground group. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide engineering support to manufacturing and to external customers with regard to the manufacture and design of PMG. The position requires a basic understanding and application of both electrical power and mechanical engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide sustaining engineering support to both internal and external customers of Vista UDS, Vista SD, and Vista Green UDS.
  • Problem-solving design and manufacturing related problems through use of fundamental engineering calculations and theory.
  • Creating and maintaining engineering standards.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing/assembly methods to achieve cost-effective, world class manufacturing quality.
  • Validate and implement design changes or develop new designs of components and subcomponents, under the direction of senior engineering personnel, either alone or collaborating with a team of engineers and designers.
  • Work with product development teams to learn best practices to design for manufacture and assembly .
  • Coordinate and perform product testing under limited supervision.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for customers that enhances S&Cs engineering reputation.
  • Interact with customers on the phone or in the field to resolve design, manufacturing, or application related problems.

What youll Need To Succeed:

Required

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or relevant engineer undergrad.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and theory with an emphasis on power engineering.
  • Experience in the design and development of products utilizing castings, stampings, corrosion resistant coatings, and environmental seals.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, the application of GD&T, and FMEAs
  • Desire to work hands-on in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and FEA software. Experience with SolidEdge and ANSYS preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build and grow professional relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects and tasks to meet milestones.
  • Preferred experience with Data Analysis, Pareto Charts, Microsoft Visual Basic, and/or Power BI

Physical Requirements:

Physical demands are those typically associated with an office environment, but may also include laboratory environments, factory environments, and customer/ field environments.

Frequent use of PC keyboard and mouse.

Proof of visual and aural acuity, or other physical suitability, as well as formal training and/ or testing and evaluation, may be required to enter or work in restricted-access areas.

Lifting: Occasional lifting of switchgear components, less than 40 pounds

Environmental and Hazardous Conditions

  • Continuously working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned office/manufacturing based environment.
  • Infrequently exposed to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.
  • Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.
  • Occasionally working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
  • Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.
  • Infrequently working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
