JOB SUMMARY
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: preventative maintenance and repair, diagnosing vehicle failure, and the repair of all equipment Citywide.
Examples of Duties
Diagnoses the causes of equipment malfunction to determine which parts need repair, adjustment, rebuilding, fabrication or replacement
Repairs engine and associated components such as carburetors, electronic fuel injection systems, cooling systems and front-end and rear suspension systems
Performs tune-ups on engines of various types of equipment including heavy trucks, heavy equipment and specialized equipment
Repairs, overhauls, modifies, replaces, or installs mechanical, electrical and/or hydraulic units such as power-take offs, snow removal blades, etc., on trucks and other heavy equipment
Observes the need for other necessary repairs and performs as required
May perform preventative maintenance and complete minor repairs
Cleans assigned work area and picks up tools and places them in appropriate cabinet/chest
Typical Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Minimum of three to five years mechanical experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair
Must possess appropriate diesel certifications by an accredited organization
Must be knowledgeable in the repair of engines (gas and diesel), brakes, hydraulics, lighting, transmissions, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems, tire repairs, and plow repairs
Must be reliable and able to assist in all departmental activities as requested
Reliable attendance is required
Must have the ability to safely work well with others and follow both written and verbal instructions
Must be available for emergencies requiring overtime hours of work and available for shift rotation as needed
Must be able to operate the city's towing equipment and assist with all related towing operations
Must be available to work Holidays and weekends and to assist in other City Departments as needed.
