Regional Construction Manager, OSP (Travel)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Construction Manager to lead Outside Plant (OSP) Construction Teams . You can live anywhere in the Southeast but must be willing to travel 4 weeks on, 1 week off.

The successful candidate will oversee primarily underground fiber construction projects, ensuring all aspects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. This role involves hands-on management, customer engagement, and oversight of project scheduling, budgeting, billing, and field operations.

Must have experience leading in-house construction teams, fleet management and prior hands-on experience with operating underground equipment (directional drills, vibratory plows, excavators).

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead and manage all aspects of outside plant fiber construction, including aerial and underground installations.
  • Provide direction and oversight to underground supervisors and subcontractors to ensure work aligns with project objectives and quality standards.
  • Conduct field visits for bid walks, pre-construction meetings, punch list walks, and project closeouts.


Customer Interaction

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers, fostering strong relationships through clear communication and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand project requirements and address concerns promptly.


Budget & Billing Management

  • Develop, manage, and track project budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and approve invoices, ensuring accurate billing and alignment with completed work.
  • Prepare financial reports and provide updates on budget performance to internal stakeholders and customers.


Scheduling & Reporting

  • Create and maintain project schedules, coordinating timelines with customers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress and deliver detailed status reports to stakeholders.
  • Identify and address potential delays or issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.


Field Operations

  • Participate in bid walks to evaluate project requirements and prepare accurate estimates.
  • Oversee pre-construction meetings to align teams on scope, timeline, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct punch list walks to identify outstanding tasks and ensure timely project closeout.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide clear direction and guidance to supervisors and subcontractors to achieve project goals.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Evaluate team performance and provide training or feedback to enhance skill sets and productivity.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in outside plant fiber construction, with a strong understanding of aerial and underground construction methods.
  • Proven track record in managing budgets, schedules, and complex construction projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships effectively.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities, capable of directing multiple teams and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with permitting, safety regulations, and industry standards for fiber construction.


Work Environment:

  • Office-based with regular field visits to construction sites.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and physically navigating job sites.
  • Travel to project locations is required as much as 50% per month and travel as much as 14 days in a row.
