JOB SUMMARY

The Parks Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of assigned personnel including Technicians and Specialists involved in grounds and building maintenance, minor construction and similar work that takes place at designated Town locations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads and manages assigned personnel in order to complete all tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Plans for manpower, equipment, and material required to complete assigned tasks at their designated facility.
  • Keeps the Landscape Manager abreast of all pertinent issues pertaining to employees, equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Ensures assigned personnel follow safe work procedures and practices at all times; conducts employee safety training as required.
  • Assigns work duties to personnel for each project.
  • Recommends employee disciplinary action when required and assists the Landscape Manager in the completion of employee evaluations.
  • Performs manual labor and operates departmental equipment as necessary.
  • Responsible for inspecting and maintaining all Town buildings and related grounds at their designated facility.
  • Sets up and cleans up for Town events
  • Performs other duties as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma
  • Four (4) years prior work experience
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred Commercial Driver's License
  • Must obtain South Carolina Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (category 3 or 9) within 6 months of hire

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques;
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of maintenance and landscaping
  • Knowledge of department safety practices and techniques
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral communication;
  • Ability to direct employees in the proper work techniques and safety procedures;
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to complete tasks quickly, efficiently, and safely

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work requires some agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain, or standing or walking most of the work period. Occasionally, work may require lifting heavy objects and carrying them (up to 50 lbs.). There may be need to stretch and reach to retrieve materials. Employee must have adequate hearing and visual capability in order to perform this job safely. Usually, the work will require extended physical effort over a significant portion of the workday

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment involves frequent exposure to intermittent machine or related noise or a combination of unpleasant elements such as unpleasant weather conditions, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt or grease. Includes work under typical shop conditions or outdoor work. Work may involve general cleaning, occasional work at heights or in confined or cramped quarters, or work around machinery and its moving parts. Employees will be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, and Town special events. This employee is on call in order to support Town efforts if necessary.
