About the job:
The Welder Mechanic supports plant operations by performing equipment repairs and welding tasks as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Planner. Work may involve piping, furnaces, reactors, boilers, high-pressure vessels, centrifuges, gear boxes, and hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
In your future role as a Maintenance Mechanic Welder, you will:
- Perform maintenance on production equipment, buildings, process piping, and plant facilities, including preventative and emergency repairs
- Execute welding tasks using GMAW, FCAW, or SMAW techniques, ranging from simple to complex welds in various positions
- Pass a site-specific welding test for furnace tubes
- Work safely at all times and follow all prescribed safety and prevention measures
- Conduct rotating equipment repair and laser alignment to standard specifications
- Operate general maintenance tools and equipment such as drill presses, portable drills, torque wrenches, and hand tools
- Handle rigging and crane operation as needed
- Provide on-call support and work overtime as required to meet operational needs
- Maintain the condition and readiness of all tools and equipment used
- Attend required meetings and training sessions
- Use personal computers to complete tasks such as entering work orders, confirming time, and ordering parts
- Adhere to all safety protocols in a chemical plant environment, including confined space entry, LOTOTO, line break, and hot work procedures
- Wear a full-face respirator or SCBA when needed for specific maintenance activities
- Participate in HSES initiatives as directed by leadership or outlined in the site's annual plan
- Apply your mechanical skills to support maintenance and troubleshooting as needed
We believe you bring:
- High school diploma required
- Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a chemical plant or similar industrial environment
- Ability to obtain Crane CIC operator certification (up to 75 tons)
- Completion of a related trade school or apprenticeship program is preferred
- 5+ years of industrial experience in a chemical plant environment is preferred
Good to know:
- This is a permanent position on a full-time basis, reporting to the Maintenance Manager based in Axis, AL.
