Organization Highway District 3 Pay $20.32 Pay Frequency Hourly Full Time / Part Time Full time Job Summary Under general supervision, operates various types of power construction equipment, such as backhoe, loaders, rubber tire and steel wheel rollers, crack sealing machines and distributors used in the construction, repair and maintenance of roads and bridges by performing the following duties. All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Operate various pieces of heavy construction equipment or trucks on a regularly assigned basis; check for proper functioning of the equipment during operation and makes needed adjustments; perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including operation pre check for proper fluids and lubricant. Inform supervisor of repair needs or makes field repairs to equipment. May occasionally operate or train on equipment normally assigned to a higher or lower classification; perform labor duties as member of road/bridge crew as necessary. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Skill in operating heavy construction equipment or trucks safely; in conforming to construction standards and specifications; and in making needed adjustments and preventative maintenance. Knowledge of functions, operating methods, limitations and care required on heavy equipment; of road/bridge; of hazards of heavy equipment operations; of traffic laws and regulations pertaining to equipment operated; of safety rules and equipment; and of departmental policies and procedures. Ability to detect needed equipment repairs and necessary adjustments; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to estimate and calculate materials needed; to read blueprints and grade stakes; to work independently; and to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four year high school and over three years in heavy equipment operation in highway and bridge maintenance or construction. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to supervisors or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
