Position Overview:

The purpose of this position is to plan, manage, supervise and perform the maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment while maintaining an adequate parts inventory. This work is performed under the direction of the Superintendent of Public Works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises vehicle and equipment repairs, including assigning and prioritizing work; ensures completion.
  • Performs and assists with maintenance, general repairs, and troubleshooting for fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance and schedules necessary repairs in coordination with field operations.
  • Performs metal fabrication, bodywork, painting, and detailing.
  • Manages parts inventory and maintenance records; oversees parts room operations.
  • Researches, obtains bids, and purchases parts, materials, and equipment; verifies invoices.
  • Evaluates and recommends equipment purchases; presents to committee or council as needed.
  • Trains mechanics on complex repairs.
  • Assists in supervising sanitation and street maintenance activities.
  • Maintains waste oil drop-off stations.
  • Responds to emergencies and performs duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and maintains up-to-date knowledge through training.
  • Regular attendance, punctuality, and participation in rotational call-out schedule required.

Qualifications:

  • Education : Requires a high school diploma
  • Experience : 1 to 3 years of vocational schooling in diesel engine repair, heavy equipment, auto repair, and welding or
    equivalent technical training in automotive and heavy equipment repair.
  • Certifications : ASE Certification for heavy and medium duty diesel trucks or a combination of experience and/or formal
    vocational schooling totaling not less than 5 years.
  • Other : · 4 years of progressively responsible vehicle/heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
    • Valid Wisconsin Class A commercial drivers license with B, C, D and N endorsements.
    • Certification in welding (rod and wire feed), cutting torches, plasma cutters, braising, hydraulics, and pneumatics, or a combination of schooling, training, and/or experience of not less than 3 years.
    • 2 years of shop supervisory experience preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: 67,516.80- $80,704.00 depending on experience.
    • Salary range reflects base to midpoint of the pay scale. Offers above midpoint require Council approval.
