We are working on Hawaiian Telcom's Fiber Broadband Infrastructure Project to expand middle-mile infrastructure throughout the State of Hawaii. Hawaiian Telcom's project will build 15 new middle-mile fiber routes, over land and undersea, to better connect the islands. For the Drop Technician role, we are open to candidates with no experience who are reliable, hard-working, and interested in learning the trade and career in Telecommunications with a reputable company. Drop Technician Job Details & Requirements: -No Experience=$19 hourly -Some experience with Cat5/Cat6/Fiber Optic experience=$20-$21 hourly -Hours of work are Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm -Company Van and Tool Kit are provided -Driver's License highly preferred, but not needed. If no Driver's License, he/she will just not be able to drive company vehicle. -High School Diploma -You must be able to pass a drug and background check. Growth/Promotion: -Average time for promotion takes 9 months to move into Senior Install Technician. -Once hit 9 months, they will sponsor your Secret Clearance for government projects Top Skills' Details 1) Experience with pulling and terminating cable, conducting surveys, and BICSI knowledge (if not certified). The individual would need to possess enough experience to be able to do installations on their own. 2) Ability to carry 50 lbs or more as the equipment and tools are heavy. For instance, their ladders are heavy and awkward to carry. 3) Ability to provide great customer service as they will be servicing residential and commercial customers. Job Description/Responsibilities: Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables. Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing. Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task. Be familiar with BICSI standards, read and follow design engineers' instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to safety procedures. Interpret buried underground and aerial telecom facilities in records, on maps and in the field with clarity and detail and make recommendations for changes in running line or construction methodologies. Maintain inside and outside plant records during installation. Perform routine maintenance. Recognize and repair route issues including maintenance and hand hole cleanup, and sign placement. Connect wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
