The Painter Master is an advanced Journeyman position which performs painting, plaster, and sheet rock taping and finishing work requiring a high degree of skill and precision, and in addition, performs lead-worker duties over assigned helpers, maintenance repairers, contingent employees, student workers on an as needed basis as determined by the Maintenance Foreman.

40% Determines methods of application and applies all types of paint with brush, roller, or spray equipment to various types of surfaces; determines methods of application and applies stains, varnishes, sealers, etc. to wood surfaces in accordance to manufacturer's specifications; mixes, thins and matches all types of stains, sealers, paints ,etc.

30% Performs duties such as sheet rock taping and floating walls, ceiling, etc.; preparing surfaces to a professional finish ready to accept the appropriate finish coatings. This will include all types of sanding, featuring sponging, cleaning and any other related task in order to professionally prepare surfaces to accept coatings, paint, wallpaper, etc.; installs corner beads, j-beads, or any other type of connecting, wall ending or tie-in device as needed.

10% Determines methods of plaster application, mixes and matches plaster and cement. Apply plaster material to prepare surface using the correct standard tool of the trade. Performs incidental related duties such as plasters newly constructed walls and ceilings on metal and wood, tile, and brick; applies the necessary number of coats and finishes plaster to match the existing finish of the building. Patches old plaster, removes loose plaster, cut out cracks, applies new plaster and performs all duties encumbered for the Journeyman Plasterer job.

10% Performs incidental related duties such as window glazing, caulking, spackling, puttying, wall covering, waterproofing work. Cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted with the use of sandpaper, burners, scrapers, brushes, water blasting equipment, sanding machine, paint removers, wire brushes, power tools, etc. Erects and removes scaffolding, swinging stages, use of all types of ladders from stepladders to extension ladders, running boards and any other related rigging work.

5% Performs various related work as assigned or required; directs and trains assigned helpers. Maintain courtesy and customer service skills at all times.

Operates and works from man lifts to access work areas as necessary.

5% Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities as well as participation in the creation of a respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its department; Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience or training in the painting trade.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Six years of experience or training in the painting trade, four years of which must have been at the journeyman painter level.

SPECIAL OR PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Must possess a valid Class "E" driver's license. Pre-employment drug screening and physical required. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with Univ. PS-67. In accordance with Univ. PS-18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb stairs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder; and work reaching overhead.
