As a Transportation Engineer Specialist (TES) for East Central Iowa, you will work with engineers, field staff, and local public agencies to identify and seek solutions to operational, maintenance, and safety issues on the primary road system. You will have the opportunity to broaden and develop your communication, design, project development, and project management skills. Additional dutieswill include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the primary DOT engineering contact in the northern area of District 6. Specific counties & maintenance garages served will be assigned based on business needs. This involves working closely with district staff, maintenance, central office staff, cities, and counties.
- Development and design of projects that are designed by District 6. Typical project types include pavement resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation (3R), pavement maintenance (MP), Interstate pavement maintenance (4R), small culvert repairs, and emergency repair (ER) projects.
- Serves as district lead on projects being developed by central offices (Bridge or Road Design), Cities, Counties, or consultants. Includes concept and plan reviews, field reviews, detour agreements, preconstruction agreements, coordination with local public agencies, public involvement, and review of traffic control and staging.
- Reviews safety, operational, maintenance, and engineering concerns. Identifies solutions that would address the concerns. Coordinates and implements solutions.
Special License Requirements:
- A valid class C Drivers License must be possessed and maintained.
- Maintain license as a professional engineer through Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau - Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Board.

3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer.
