Summary: The Project Engineer II is responsible for meeting stringent timelines, budgets, and technical goals for engineering projects in a manufacturing environment with-in their assigned areas of responsibility. The candidate will plan and formulate technical projects and organize those involved according to project requirements. They leverage program management skillsets developed through experience leading successful engineering projects. Projects may involve new capital equipment for new production line development, new technology introduction, or continuous improvement. The Project Engineer II will provide support for estimating new business opportunities, including tooling, equipment, and cost to manufacture product. Essential Responsibilities:
- Build and lead cross-functional teams in support of new customer requirements, continuous improvement efforts, and expanded product offerings
- Defines the project scope and requirements by finalizing project charters and plans; conferring with team members and obtaining stakeholder approvals
- Establishes project manufacturing specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing capability, kinematic and other technical studies
- Creates Gantt developments and project schedules by studying project scope and requirements; sequencing project elements; estimating time requirements; developing key milestones
- Determines project action item responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; identifying responsible personnel for each phase and element; reviewing bids from contractors and overseeing separation of internal and external workload
- P repares project cost estimates by using vendor quotes or estimates when firm data is not available; conferring with subject matter experts, team members and obtaining stakeholder approvals
- Ensures the delivery of project scope by creating and executing a testing protocol that verifies the project meets all the requirements established during the project planning phase. May require conferring with subject matter experts and team members for specific technical requirements.
- Controls project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts
- Controls project plan by using critical thinking to verify design intent, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions when course corrections are required
- Communicates and works well with all departments to make recommendations on continuous improvement and optimizing equipment and process systems. Facilitates team meetings, capable of team building and is an active listener.
- Provides timely project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; identifying key actions, dates required and persons responsible
- Implement engineering solutions, by overseeing and coordinating engineering analysis, design, and planning with-in areas of assigned responsibility
- Design and provide packaging solutions through the use of packaging software
- Perform cut edge calculations, product construction, and provide steel specifications to support product quoting activities
- Assists in maintaining Engineering file systems and databases by updating and revising accurate and error-free information. This includes but is not limited to drawing files, drawing databases, ECR, and packaging files
- Independently travel domestically and internationally. May visit ICC and equipment manufacturing locations to perform Factory Acceptance Testing and / or Site Acceptance Testing for installed equipment
- Maintains a good working knowledge of the company’s manufacturing processes
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by following company personnel and product safety requirements including standards such as those from SQF and internal GMPs
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

- Ability to work in multiple locations daily, travel domestically and internationally (at times up to 25%)
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across multiple facilities
- Experience with new capital equipment project management and/or NPI management
- Skilled at developing project scope and evaluates options and identifies risks to team members even when firm data is not available. Understands who to involve and how to obtain team members for finalization of project charters.
- Skilled at developing Gantt charts and project schedules, understanding how to sequence project elements to reduce lead-time. Develops key milestones based on long lead-time purchases and / or constrained resources. Provides adequate buffering between major events to allow for a stable planning timeline for the organization.
- Skilled at Project Budget estimates even when firm data is not available. Understands how to obtain budgetary estimates from suppliers and when to use firm quotes for stakeholder approvals.
- Skilled at developing and performing testing protocols with equipment manufactures Identifies when active testing needs changed or stopped. Negotiates with equipment manufacturers to obtain additional resources and / or time on test.
- Highly skilled with horizontal and vertical communication internally and with customers; using complex datasets, spreadsheets, and Project dashboards. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Experience with roll forming, high-speed stamping, rubber compounding, robotic material handling, high-speed inspection, lithography
- Familiar with, t ooling design, equipment builds, plant layout, lean manufacturing, design for experiments, OEE, Controls & Process Engineering, SPC, PFMEA, machine design, manufacturing procedures, safety management, supervision
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: B.S. in Engineering, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred; Minimum 3 years’ experience in capital equipment and complex project management, product design, process design, and vendor relations. Minimum of 7 years’ experience in manufacturing is required with preference to experience in the metal packaging industry.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of executives, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid State Driver’s License, which meets Company requirements of the Fleet Management Policy and insurance requirements.
