General Mine Foreman

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• With the Superintendent or General Manager develops the overall mining plan, budgeting, equipment selection, labor, material and supplies needed.
• Coordinates, assigns, and monitors the daily mining activity to ensure that production tonnage and coal contract requirements are met in the safest, most efficient manner.
• Reviews with others in mine management the general mining plan for the day and then evaluates personnel relative to performing the needed work to meet daily objectives.
• Determines manpower needs and directs qualified replacements to ensure qualified employees from the workforce are properly assigned.
• Regular inspections of the mine to observe production practices relative to quality, quantity and safety.
• Reviews and signs the mine examiner's book on a daily basis.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

• Monitors the "in mine" communications relative to loading start time, down time, emergencies, etc.
• Develops teamwork among subordinates including the development of individual skills.
• Ensures compliance with State and Federal mine laws, as well as company policy.
• Maintains and controls costs including M&S and labor.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of underground mining practices, belt haulage, roof control, drainage, and ventilation methods.
• Skilled in decision making relative to production, maintenance, mine law, mine safety, and contractual problems.
• Good organization and communication skills.
• Ability to supervise and motivate.

Education/Training:

• State Mine Foreman Certification.
• Minimum five (5) years underground supervisory mining experience.
• Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
