Job Summary:

As a Facilities Project Engineer at Caterpillar, you will play a critical role in supporting the operational efficiency and infrastructure development of our manufacturing facilities. You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and oversight of facility-related projects, including process maintenance and the East Peoria campus fleet. This role ensures that all building systems and infrastructure meet operational, safety, and sustainability standards while aligning with Caterpillars strategic goals.

What You Will Do:

  • Management of maintenance and capital replacements for the East Peoria campus fleet
  • Partner with our Process Maintenance Manager to improve our facilitys process maintenance program
  • Serve as the primary liaison with suppliers technical support teams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment or infrastructure disruptions efficiently.
  • Perform routine to complex engineering tasks across multiple or large-scale facilities, ensuring alignment with operational goals and compliance standards.
  • Plan, execute, and control small to medium-scope facilities projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project documentation, including scope of work, schedules, budgets, and risk assessments.
  • Conduct facility assessments and audits to identify improvement opportunities in safety, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, maintenance, EHS, and procurement teams to ensure facility initiatives support broader business objectives.

What skills you will have:

Project Management:

  • Manage small to medium-scale facility projects from initiation to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and external contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders and leadership.

Facilities Management:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of production equipment
  • Apply knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards relevant to industrial facilities.
  • Conduct facility audits and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts for facility-related services.

Problem Solving:

  • Analyze complex technical issues related to infrastructure, equipment, or systems and develop effective solutions.
  • Use root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), or similar methodologies to resolve recurring problems.
  • Make data-driven decisions under pressure, especially during equipment failures or operational disruptions.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and structural systems with precision and efficiency.

Process Management:

  • Design, implement, and optimize facility-related processes to improve efficiency, safety, and compliance.
  • Document workflows, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and maintenance protocols.
  • Apply Lean principles or Six Sigma tools to identify waste and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and use metrics to guide process enhancements.

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the East Peoria, IL Building LL facility.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
