Mechanical Engineer (Vehicle Accident Reconstruction)

S-E-A's St. Louis office is adding a mechanical engineer to their busy staff due, to growth! This is an ideal role for an engineer who is passionate about vehicles and wants site/field work incorporated into their day. At S-E-A, we find the "why" when things fail, working as experts, testifying through deposition and or trial. Must have prior mechanical experience specific to vehicles.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analysis on incidents involving all types of vehicles and related mechanical equipment
  • Conduct vehicular accident reconstruction and mechanical failure analysis initially in a support role and later as a project lead
  • Perform calculations, engineering analysis, computer analyses and simulations and technical reporting
  • Investigate design, safety and failure of machinery and mechanical systems
  • Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Regular and predictable physical presence in the office
  • Long term goal to become testifying expert
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
  • Regular and predictable presence at work

Position Requirements:

  • B.S in Mechanical Engineering required, Master's Degree preferred
  • P. E. licensed preferred or eligible within six months for P. E. registration through testing
  • Five years minimum of post-academic engineering work experience required
  • Vehicular knowledge is required
  • NHTSA, Forensic, Racing or Vehicle Safety background is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Computer skills with spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software is a must
  • Computer aided drawing skills is a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Public speaking experience is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 35% of the time
  • Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to drive in all conditions
  • Ability to fly on airplanes
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
