We are looking for a FAS Plan Review Supervisor!
The FAS Plan Review Supervisor plays a pivotal role in safeguarding public welfare by overseeing the review of various factory-built structures, including manufactured homes, modular buildings, and commercial units. This position ensures compliance with state and national building codes, encompassing structural, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and energy standards. By supervising plan reviews and factory inspections, the supervisor upholds safety and quality standards, contributing to the integrity of the built environment.
In addition to technical oversight, the FAS Plan Review Supervisor fosters transparency and accessibility by addressing inquiries from the public, consumers, and industry professionals regarding building codes, plan reviews, and inspections. As a working supervisor, actively participates in plans examinations, intake processes, and field inspections, ensuring a hands-on approach to maintaining high standards and continuous improvement within the FAS program.
Some of what you will do
- Oversees and supervises Plans Examiners and plans review activities for the FAS program.
- Provides plan review guidance, explains and interprets applicable information, codes, laws, and regulations.
- Works primarily remote from various regions.
- Hires, trains, and evaluates employee job performance and conducts annual performance appraisals and mid-year progress reviews.
- Provides coaching and feedback, including corrective action as needed.
- Develops training and safety plans and ensures staff receives the required training.
- Monitors the program databases and records for integrity and accuracy.
- Responds to escalated inquires or complaints that are often based on procedure or are technical in nature.
- Evaluates and updates WAC rules and interpreting building and construction codes and standards.
- Licensed Professional (LP) intake and oversight including quality review process on LP plans, reviewing LP submittal requests and their authorization or rejection.

Required:
Three years of experience performing one of the following:
FAS Inspector 2 or equivalent work experience.
OR
FAS Plans Examiner 2 or equivalent work experience.
OR
Building official, assistant building official or inspection supervisor for a city, town or county building department.
Certification by the International Code Council as a building official or building inspector.
Certification as a Washington State Production Inspection Primary Inspection Agency (IPIA) inspector.
Must be willing and able to comply with the Labor & Industries' Core Competencies (request the PDF for more details).
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
International Code Council (ICC) Certified Building Official.
Possession of Washington State Production Inspection Primary Inspection Agency (IPIA) Certification may be required for FAS Program positions.
Ability to: read and interpret blueprints and apply applicable codes, rules and regulations; explain technical requirements to professionals, nonprofessionals and other interested parties; meet and deal effectively with others; prepare clear and concise reports.
Journey-level in the building construction trades/craft(s) such as a licensed plumber or electrician, including one year of experience in an official capacity, reviewing and approving building plans for construction.
