SUMMARY
Assists maintenance personnel by operating heavy machinery and equipment to maintain the District school grounds and facilities.
Performs all assigned major excavating, trenching and earthwork.
Prepares cost estimates in terms of materials and labor required in area of responsibility.
Heavy equipment maintenance and operations:
Maintains strict vigilance of proper use and care of all District heavy equipment such as tractors, dump trucks, trailers, backhoe and trencher.
Performs preventive maintenance on all District heave equipment.
Operates heavy equipment as required to perform work and to support other District maintenance shops.
Fences and gates: inspects, installs, maintains and repairs District fences and gates.
Roadways and parking lots: establishes, maintains and repairs roadways and parking lots.
Green areas, trees and plants: maintains District grounds to present a neat and well-kept appearance to include mowing, fertilization, weed control, trimming and pruning. (Mowing, fertilization and week control will be limited to those areas accessible with a tractor.)
Safety exercises and enforces extreme care during the operation of heavy equipment in school grounds.
Performs shop facilities housekeeping and safeguards materials and equipment entrusted to perform the essential duties.
Develops and maintains harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees and the general public.
Follows procedures as outlined in the Maintenance and Operation Handbook when performing the essential duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Minimum 5 years experience in Heavy Equipment operations (i.e backhoe, dump truck, etc.)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
New Mexico Operators Commercial Driver License Class A
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
