Our team in Albuquerque is seeking a Senior Welder/Fabricator to play a key role in the fabrication and development of next-generation, high-tech components. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of innovative projects, including advanced mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electromagnetic systems. In collaboration with our scientists, engineers, and technicians, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to bring designs to life, contributing directly to the creation of cutting-edge systems and technologies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the welding and fabrication of complex components, using TIG, MIG, and Stick welding techniques for various materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design and fabricate advanced mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and components.
  • Interpret and translate engineering drawings and specifications into precise welded parts, ensuring adherence to quality standards and tolerances.
  • Inspect and verify welds and fabricated parts to ensure they meet print specifications, conducting in-process measurements and quality checks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fabrication and welding challenges, offering innovative solutions to complex design and manufacturing problems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and industry standards, maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Manage material preparation, including cleaning, cutting, and fitting, ensuring the correct selection of materials and welding consumables.
  • Order and maintain an inventory of welding supplies, materials, and tools, ensuring stock levels are adequate for ongoing projects and production needs.
  • Support the integration of new technologies and fabrication methods to improve efficiency and expand capabilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 5+ years of applicable experience
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Expert in TIG and MIG welding of aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel, with a focus on precision and consistency.
  • Ensures all surfaces are properly cleaned before welding to prevent contamination, and applies preheating or cooling techniques as necessary to avoid material distortion or cracking. Skilled in maintaining consistent gas shielding and utilizing position-specific welding techniques to ensure high-quality, strong, and precise welds.
  • Demonstrated ability to minimize warping during welding to maintain part integrity.
  • Experience with welding for specialized applications, including pressure vessels and vacuum systems.
  • Skilled in welding and fixturing complex tube and plate frame assemblies with high attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in the operation of plasma cutting and waterjet cutting machines, ensuring precise material cutting for fabrication.
  • Proficient in bending precision sheet metal, with a strong understanding of techniques and tools to achieve accurate, high-quality bends within tight tolerances.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.2 Structural Welding Code Aluminum

Our Directed Energy team in Albuquerque consists of approximately 100 scientists, engineers, technicians, drafters, fabricators and support staff with backgrounds in advanced physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, electromagnetics, lasers, and high-power microwaves. For over three decades our team has worked with government laboratories to push the limits of the state-of-the-art in several high-tech fields and continue to do so on several programs.

Pay Range: Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
