Under the general direction and supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, constructs facilities as required, maintains and repairs all college electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems. Programs and operates building automation system. The Maintenance Mechanic III is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.
Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Receives work assignments, work orders, and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor.
Study and interpret construction; mechanical or electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings or sketches to construct new facilities; to install new equipment or troubleshoot mechanical or electrical problems; plans and determines working procedures and tool and materials requirements.
Correct defective mechanical devices and other equipment by disassembling, installing new parts, welding or refitting; adjusts and maintains mechanical equipment.
Install air, water, gas and refrigerant lines; repairs and maintains plumbing.
Repair and maintain temperature control systems.
Repair and maintain plumbing.
Repair and maintain all college HVAC systems.
Repair and maintain AC & DC electrical systems.
Repair and maintain electronic equipment and systems.
Operate and program the building automation system.
Regularly inspect mechanical, electrical and HVAC equipment.
May be responsible for the maintenance of the college's swimming pool if certified as an Illinois Swimming Pool Operator.
Assist in job training for designated maintenance staff.
Clean boilers, add chemicals to boiler water, cooling towers and close water system. Makes chemical tests as required and keeps boiler house log.
Responsible for housekeeping in his/her work area and work sites.
Perform related duties as assigned.
