JOB OBJECTIVE: The Market Development Manager, Academia & Government (A/G), plays a pivotal role in expanding Promega’s impact across the academic and government sectors. This strategic and customer-facing role blends market intelligence, relationship building, and cross-functional collaboration to drive Promega’s success in the A/G segment. Their work will be instrumental in identifying opportunities for growth, supporting global branch alignment, executing high-impact outreach programs, and leading external collaborations that position Promega as a trusted partner in scientific advancement in the academic and government market segment.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Conduct and analyze market research to uncover opportunities for strategic growth, institutional engagement, and expansion of Promega’s market share and brand awareness by tracking key external drivers such as federal funding trends, science policy shifts, and purchasing behaviors within the Academic & Government market segment.

2. Work with global branches and their internal sales teams to understand regional culture, co-develop marketing strategies, customize messaging and training, and implement SBU initiatives that support global market growth.

3. Build and nurture strategic relationships with key academic and government institutions, funding bodies, and potential partners by identifying and pursuing opportunities for market expansion, institutional pilots, and sponsored initiatives, while serving as the external-facing connector between Promega and the broader academic ecosystem, including early-career researchers, institutional leadership, and research administrators to elevate Promega’s visibility and influence in academic science.

4. Identify and cultivate KOLs for collaboration, alpha/beta testing, and conference visibility.

5. Assist Segment Marketing in formulating global strategies and tactical plans for market segments. Ensure Product Managers, Product Marketing, and Branch Marketing agree with these marketing and tactical initiatives.

6. Collaborate with the Segment Marketing Manager, Strategic Collaborations Marketing Manager, Product Managers, and Product Marketing Managers to contribute to strategic product roadmaps. This includes conducting situation analyses, SWOT analysis, positioning products/technologies, estimating market size, segmenting customers, and setting appropriate pricing. Ensure products meet market demands and accurately define the market potential for new concepts.

7. Drive internal alignment and field-informed planning by providing feedback from the field to inform multiple corporate teams including and not limited to Strategic Business Units, Branches, Global Sales, R&D, and Global Custom and OEM Solutions Team to ensure alignment with broader business objectives.

8. Lead outreach campaigns and academic initiatives by planning and executing grants, innovation campaigns, and programs that foster academic engagement and increase brand relevance in the segment.

9. Develop and deliver training programs by creating training materials and sessions for internal teams, distributors, and partners on technologies, applications, and best practices.

10. Proactively engage with industry leaders and arrange discussions between Promega's R&D scientists and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to align product development with current industry trends. Collaborate with KOLs to create and deliver posters, presentations, and workshops at major scientific conferences, enhancing Promega's visibility and influence.

11. Develop and present compelling presentations for individual stakeholders or groups, regardless of size. Act as Promega's representative at local, regional, or global industry events, conferences, and seminars. Also, lead customer seminars and contribute to regional sales meetings to enhance understanding and engagement with Promega's offerings in the Academic & Government market segment.

12. Adapt to change with flexibility, maintain a high standard of excellence, and persistently pursue goals despite challenges. Be mindful of how actions and behavior affect colleagues, contributing positively to a team effort and making a significant impact towards shared objectives.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, Marketing or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.

2. 5+ years of experience in market or business development, preferably with a focus on biotechnology industries.

3. Strong understanding of funding ecosystems (NIH, NSF, HHMI, etc.), procurement in higher education, and public-sector research drivers. Have functional knowledge in strategic business planning and providing sales support.

4. Strong networking skills and ability to foster relationships with key stakeholders, including decision-makers and senior officials in Academic & Government laboratories, and regulatory bodies.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of building strong relationships with key industry decision-makers and senior-level colleagues worldwide. Demonstrate strong emotional and social intelligence to enhance effectiveness in these interactions.

6. Capable of understanding, presenting, and engaging in discussions on scientific subjects at an intermediate level. Exhibits strong analytical skills, adept at problem-solving and strategic planning.

7. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with a focus on prioritizing tasks effectively. Maintain a relentless approach to prioritization and embody a proactive, 'can-do' attitude in all endeavors.

8. Highly self-motivated and independent, with a strong drive and determination to succeed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.

2. Master of Business Administration.

3. Possesses technical expertise in at least three scientific fields relevant to Promega, including areas of emerging technology.

4. Familiarity with academic/government grant processes and policy landscape.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to travel internationally 20-25% and domestically a minimum of 50-55%.

2. Ability to use telephone and computer equipment.

3. Ability to move up to 60 lbs.

4. Ability to drive a vehicle.
