The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the Permanent Full-Time positions of Electrician Supervisor at the Monroe Correctional Complex, in Monroe, Washington.

The Department consists of the Office of the Secretary, Prisons Division, Community Corrections Division, Administrative Service Division, Health Services Division, Communications Department and Risk Management Department.

Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) is a 1500 bed male all-custody level facility located 30 miles northeast of Seattle. Employing approximately 1200 staff, the complex consists of five major units; the Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU), Sky River Treatment Center (SRTC), a large mental health inpatient treatment unit, Twin Rivers Unit (TRU), Intensive Management Unit (IMU), and the Minimum Security Unit (MSU). Services provided at MCC include custody and security, classification, education, incarcerated individuals treatments, food service, maintenance, personnel, recreation, volunteer services, religious services, library services, incarcerated individuals records, visiting and extended family visiting.

Duties:
  • Inspect, maintain test and repair facility electrical distribution, switching and load center equipment. Calculate circuit loads.
  • Perform preventative and routine electrical testing, maintenance and repair on all facility electrical equipment: Lighting systems, motors, starters, electrical for HVAC equipment, fans, blowers, exhausts.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair low voltage control systems, VFDs, relay controls, switch panels.
  • Inspect, maintain, test and repair, emergency power systems, generators, load centers, transfer switches, uninterrupted power supply equipment.
  • Re-lamping fixtures, testing and replacing ballasts, to include lighting switching and control circuits.
  • Repair of facility, kitchen and power equipment: Ovens, mixers, custodial power equipment, heaters, dryers, etc..
  • Responsible for shop administration: Maintain adequate Incarcerated Individual staffing. Schedule resources,
  • Incarcerated Individual labor and overtime. Create purchase requests and order and inventory sufficient materials to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Keep records; make reports. Respond to work orders, open and close work orders as needed. Report status of work as required
  • Perform required tool, key and chemical control.
  • Manage
  • Incarcerated Individual worker(s) including hiring, training and coaching; perform timely payroll and performance reviews. Supervise Incarcerated Individual crew per DOC policy
  • Maintain and update facility equipment to meet current electrical code requirements.
  • Inspect/assess electrical systems and equipment. Determine need for maintenance and repair. Prepare preliminary cost estimates and projections.
  • Under direction take lead role on facility in-house electrical projects.
  • Operate machinery, equipment and tools as needed to accomplish task.
  • Train DOC staff on electrical systems as needed.
REQUIRED
  • High School graduate or GED
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Two years of experience and completion of recognized apprenticeship or four years of applicable work experience or vocational training.
  • Washington State Journeyman Electrical License EL 01

AND:

  • Supervisory knowledge and experience.
  • Principles and practices of plant and labor management.
  • Familiarity with electrical system design/layout, hardware
  • Familiarity with electrical, building codes, safety.
  • Ability to use sound judgment, demonstrate problem solving on difficult maintenance and project problems.
  • Understand and interpret written and oral directions, specifications and plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, documents and specifications and complete projects on schedule, within specifications and budget.

DESIRED:

  • Additional professional trade licensing
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance programs or software
  • Experience in a correctional setting
