JOB SUMMARY: The Electrical Technician I is responsible for performing skilled electrical work related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. This position supports the safety and functionality of college facilities by diagnosing electrical issues, replacing components, and collaborating with other maintenance staff. The technician ensures compliance with relevant codes and safety standards while maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDUTIES:
- Performs electrical repairs and maintenance necessary to ensure safe and continuous operation of support systems
- Installs and repairs conduit, wiring, etc
- Inspects electrical systems for malfunctions and diagnoses problems using test instruments; periodically checks operation of electrical systems and equipment for safe and proper operation
- Requisitions parts and materials needed to make repairs and maintains inventory of spare parts
- Completes daily maintenance logs and work reports indicating time and materials used
- Assists HVAC technician in installing and repairing HVAC electrical services and disconnects
- Performs maintenance on electric motors; repairs, oils, adjusts, and cares for electrical motors
- Inspects HVAC electrical malfunctions and diagnoses problems using appropriate test instruments; periodically checks operation of HVAC electrical systems and equipment for safe and proper operations
- Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College
- Performs related work as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or GED certificate. required
- Three (3) years of experience in servicing, troubleshooting, and installing electrical equipment required
- City of Gadsden Journeyman Certification or State Masters Certification required
- Friendly personality; enthusiastic, positive attitude; evidence of trustworthiness and ethical conduct; effective human relations skills; strong work ethic
- Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the electrical trade
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade
- Skill in the care, use, and maintenance of the standard tools and equipment of the electrical trade
- Knowledge of the applicable electrical standards and codes
- Ability to install, alter, repair, maintain, and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment and systems
- Sufficient physical strength to permit the performance of manual tasks; ability to lift 50 pounds from the ground; ability to lift arms above the head
- Ability to walk for extended periods of time; ability to walk up and down stairs and climb up and down ladders

SALARY: Salary Schedule E4-05 - ( $34,298-$51,793 ). Salary will be based on VERIFIED education and years of VERIFIED related experience that is stated on the initial job application only .

Salary Calculation: For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position.
