The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheons CORE principles. MEs capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor) Array RF Electronics Products. LTAMDS is a recent Raytheon Technologies franchise program that will deliver a next generation radar with 360-degree visibility to defeat advanced threats including hypersonic weapons. This person will be responsible to lead mechanical teams in all phases of our design cycles, from concept development through design, development, build and test. Key requirements for this position include proven problem solving skills and experience in hardware design and integration, engineering analysis, and mechanical drawing creation with military hardware. Individuals will interface and collaborate primarily with other engineering disciplines, as well as operations, systems, quality and program offices.
This Senior Mechanical Engineer role will be based in Tewksbury, MA and is an on-site role.
What You Will Do:
Utilizing strong mechanical hardware design experience and knowledge with electronics packaging including circuit card assembly interfaces, thermal management, interconnects, and next-higher-level integration
Developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including proposal, design, manufacture, integration and test of phased array radars/electronics for multiple military programs
Supervising the definitions of mechanical outline and construction details, component selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings, electrical/RF layout, and delivering the final technical data package
Employing transition-to-production practices with the ability to lead a design release into production
Working with limited supervision and meeting commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals
Assisting with proposal inputs on behalf of the product area
Providing technical conscience, challenged with making sure the product and process meet appropriate standards and requirements while helping to remove roadblocks
Performing complex tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
Interacting frequently with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience.
Minimum of 3 years in the design of radar architecture or electronics packaging for military or aerospace or commercial applications
Proficiency with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience in practice.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience with the LTAMDS program and products
Experience with design to military and commercial standards
Experience in leading small projects and teams
Experience with CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software
Cognizant of machine suppliers capabilities or have direct experience in a manufacturing and assembly support role for producibility
Familiarity with the design and manufacturing processes of CCAs, mechanical/RF components, metal housings, structures, and electronics assemblies, metal fabrications and joining techniques
Experience in selection of materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility, and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation and prevention.
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Very strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills when working with team members and customers
Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
