GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to perform sub-professional engineering work in the coordination and inspection of the engineering aspects of public infrastructure, new construction, sanitary sewers, traffic, and drainage projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education in a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of related experience
  • Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Schedules and conducts field tests, inspections and/or investigations to ensure contractor conformance with the permitted construction documents and/or to collect data that are used to evaluate compliance with Lexington Fayette Urban County Government regulations, procedures and standards
  • Reviews invoices and analyzes engineering plans, specifications, documents, estimates, submittals, permits, easement releases and encroachments for proper completion and recording as appropriate
  • Creates and issues official communication including notices of inspection and letters of non-compliance, violation, and affidavits of release
  • Creates estimates for infrastructure projects, concrete, asphalt, etc. for quantities and costs
  • Maintain various databases depending on area of assignment
  • Research, analyze data, prepare reports
  • Answers questions and concerns from management, the public, contractors, and other internal staff
  • Draft and issue permits
  • Performs related work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

All Certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Valid Kentucky Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B with Endorsement N within the first six (6) months of employment

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical.
  • May be required to enter confined spaces
  • May be subject to callback duty or occasional weekend or evening work as assigned or during emergencies
  • All positions within the Division of Streets and Roads are required to perform snow removal duties during weather emergencies
  • In accordance with CAO Policy 23R Acquisition of Real Property From Property Owners under Certain Notices and/or Orders, no employee who works in a Division with regulatory or civil enforcement authority over real property located in Fayette County shall acquire an interest in real property in Fayette County with any outstanding citation, notice or order from the Division in which he or she works regardless of whether the citation, notice, or order was issued by the employee or someone else in the Division. This policy extends to immediate family members and the Commissioner of the Department in which the identified employee is employed. Employees may be required to disclose all real property owned by the employee as well as his/her immediate family members. Property and business ownership exemptions may apply.
