DECRIPTION OF JOB:

Transportation Services at Western Colorado University provides service, repair, and maintenance for vehicles and equipment owned by Western and the State of Colorado. It also provides vehicle rentals for use by various campus departments and programs.

JOB DUTIES

  • Vehicle Maintenance and Repair: Diagnose vehicle problems in a timely/efficient manner; Use CARS program and Preventative Maintenance reports; Complete work orders; Prioritize vehicles needing preventative maintenance per SFM protocols; Communicate with Western departments and outside state agencies to determine issues and repairs needed; Ensure proper inventory to provide timely service and repairs; Perform vehicle inspections per DOT regulations; Maintain knowledge of and complete repairs on air brake systems and diesel systems; Complete medium-duty vehicle and bus repairs

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform maintenance and repairs on Grounds, Trades, and other University equipment; Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule; Notify manager when equipment is deteriorating prior to needing replacement; Provide manager with an equipment replacement plan

  • Maintenance and Repair of Snow Removal Equipment: Perform maintenance and repair, as needed, utilizing knowledge of hydraulic control systems, welding, and fabrication; Schedule and oversee scheduled maintenance

  • Shop Maintenance: Maintain clean, safe work environment; Maintain inventory of frequently used parts and order accordingly (when needed) under supervision of manager; Write and enforce shop protocols (such as protocols related to oil changes, tool storage, safety standards)

  • Transportation Services Employee Training: Write training protocols for new employees; Train new employees and sign-off on completed of areas of training

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience Only: Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

  • OR-

  • Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience using shop repair software programs and automotive scan tools

  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Current Colorado Commercial Driver's License (with air brake endorsement), or willingness to obtain one
