About this Job:
This position serves the Bridge and Structural Design Section (Section 25) by:
- Supporting the development of construction plans by performing computer aided drafting (CAD)
- Supporting development and maintenance of the Bridge Design and Evaluation Manual (BDEM)
- Providing detailed reviews, edits, and management of development and organization of the CAD Standard Cell Library
- Performing other administrative support as required
Supplemental Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience in the area of bridge CAD architectural drafting and bridge plan development.
All specialized coursework must be in the same specialized field. A combination of coursework from different fields will not be accepted.
Full time training in sub-professional engineering from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis for a maximum of one year of experience.
Completion of a two year course of study in a sub-professional engineering curriculum from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for two years of the required experience.
A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology will substitute for all of the required experience.
Possession of an engineer intern certificate will substitute for all of the required experience.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience in the area of bridge CAD architectural drafting and bridge plan development.

Job Duties:
Bridge Design Standards Development and Maintenance
- Develops and maintains bridge Standard Plans
- Converts Special Details to Standard Plans
- Assists with providing published details for projects.
- Develops and maintains CAD cell library containing standard bridge details that are selected and incorporated into plans without having to be re-created
Bridge Design and Evaluation Manual (BDEM)
- Provides input, guidance, and assistance by reviewing and editing the BDEM
- Assists in the development, maintenance, publishing and file management of manual content
- Assists with the development and maintenance of other in-house manuals
Plan Development and Review
- Performs simple and complex Section 25 assignments, which require demonstrated abilities to interpret and apply guidelines, precedents, principles and practices.
- Develops plan detailing ranging from the simplest structures, such as cast-in-place reinforced concrete substructures, to complex structures such as continuous composite welded steel plate girder superstructures on river piers with cofferdams
- Produces details and plans in accordance with all applicable manuals, standards, and best industry practices
- Provides project administrative support to engineers by preparing, distributing, and filing project documents, researching and assembling existing project data, and preparing project exhibits as required
