Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Mine Maintenance Manager and the direct supervision of the Mine Maintenance Supervisor, the Mine Mechanic C does working level installation, maintenance, repair and construction work in the mine.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Applies a working knowledge of one or more of the following skills and has a working knowledge of most of the remainder, i.e.: electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, electricity, pipe fitting, machine tool setup and operation, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repair, construction, maintenance and installation.
- Troubleshoot and repair large mining equipment and work in both in and out of the shop on equipment repairs.
- Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
- Frequently direct the works of others of equal or lower classification.
- Operate all plant tools and be able to read and work from most blueprints and interpret construction knowledge of shop mathematics.
- Operate and maintain a service truck, cut and weld when needed.
- Perform routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning and inspection of equipment, buildings, and attachments.
- Locate and remedy trouble in most all the plant’s various machines, equipment, and installations in the field of the skill or skills in which he is proficient.
- Keep working area clean, neat, and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair.
- Does other jobs of a related nature as direct.
- May work with and assist Mechanic B, Mechanic Technician or Electrician on all types of work, but under little or no supervision or guidance – perform such tasks as dismantling and reassembly of machinery, vertical welding, building and installing ordinary sheet metal piping, installing conduit, etc.
- On occasions, as a matter of training, perform tasks of a skill normally required of a Mechanic or higher classification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Completion of a technical or an apprentice program in an accredited school
- One year of experience in a maintenance shop applying craft skills, preferably in a craft specialty.
- Ability to use prints and manuals.
- Experience working on hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Diagnostic Skills
- Proper lifting/handling materials.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Work Environment
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine workplace, and outside year round
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds regularly
- Must be able to wear all PPE, including steel-toed shoes and safety glasses
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary
- Must be able to work at heights as required
