TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Superintendent of Communications in Menlo Park, CA to join our team.
The pay range for this position is $117,200 - $130,500 annually.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Directs the operation and maintenance of communication systems to include (but not limited to) the following:
- Maintenance of network equipment associated with the Caltrain fiber optic backbone.
- Carrier LAN/WAN network equipment and circuits
- SCADA Communication systems
- Positive Train Control (PTC) systems
- Base, Mobile, and Portable radio equipment, transmitters, receivers, antennas, and signaling equipment for both voice and data communications.
- Visual and Audio public display and announcement systems
- Microwave Communication systems
- Ticket vending machine and Clipper payment systems.
- Office end circuits, servers, communications equipment, and dispatch workstations at data centers
- Monitoring and ensuring on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and orderliness.
- Placing orders for inventory materials to include the tracking of equipment deliveries.
- Studies and recommends improvements to communications facilities and systems.
- Supervises personnel to ensure preventative maintenance and emergency outage goals are resolved in an efficient and timely manner.
- Directs installation of new radio and communication systems.
- Review of preventative maintenance data to develop and implement effective solutions to complex problems.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- 3-5 years of previous management and supervision experience from a Class 1 railroad or Heavy Rail/Commuter Rail transportation system with experience in:
- Performing railroad communication and/or signal maintenance and right of way communications and signal projects.
- Coordinating and assisting with the maintenance of railroad signals and communications and signals.
- Oversight of contracts for construction and/or maintenance, reading and understanding prints and technical specifications, rules, and regulations.
- Inspecting communications and signals associated with railroad maintenance.
- Review of safety and quality assurance.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred but not required.
- Proven managerial and leadership skills.
- On-Track-Safety (OTS); General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) preferred.
- Proficiency with use of personal computer and fundamental knowledge of telecommunication systems (OSI model).
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.
- Lift and transfer weight up to 70 pounds for a distance of up to 100 feet.
- Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
- Regularly ascend and descend an 18 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
- Regularly push/pull with a body force of up to 50 pounds.
- Use hands to regularly grasp or squeeze wrenches, switches requiring force up to 60 pounds.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Work in a confined access/space environment as narrow as 18 inches.
