Department Summary:

Job Summary:

Under the direct or indirect supervision from the HVAC Manager and HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Mechanic III will operate, maintain, and repair all equipment used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. This includes operations of a central heating plant utilizing steam and/or hot water for tempering or heating buildings and a chilled water system to provide cooling to all buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:

*High school diploma or equivalent with additional specialized or technical training courses (HVAC, Building Automation Systems, etc)

*Skills and knowledge in air conditioning and refrigeration

*Background in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment with 3-5 years' experience

*Must have a professional demeanor and positive attitude, while working with a wide variety of customers including faculty/staff, students, facilities colleagues, security, and campus visitors

*Must be able to follow written and oral instructions

*Must have a working knowledge of basic computer technology including email and working with a web-based maintenance application

*Must be able to observe and follow all safety procedures, rules, and regulations

*Ability to assist in shift fill-in and be available for emergency call-in

*Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, be able to pass a background check (including a drug screen) and be insurable by Drake University

Preferred Qualifications:

*Any additional trainings or courses related to HVAC, refrigeration, maintenance of motors, pumps, fans, boiler equipment

*Refrigeration license and understanding of steam and hydronic system operations is a plus

Job Duties:

50% - Performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilation, and cooling systems including controls, pumps, fans, motors, forced air equipment, boiler and cooling equipment, and building automation - (Essential)

10% - Assist in providing hands-on training of Duty Engineers in maintenance and small repairs of HVAC equipment - (Essential)

10% - Seasonally change equipment over from heating to cooling and back with filter changes and preventative maintenance assigned tasks - (Essential)

10% - Operates and repairs of HVAC equipment in a safe and responsible as directed by by HVAC Supervisor or Manager - (Essential)

10% - Learn basics of equipment management controls (Metasys) and complete/close out work orders in TDX maintenance management system - (Essential)

5% - Ability to troubleshoot system issues and be courteous with customers - (Essential)

5% - Familiar with high pressure steam boilers, condensate pumps, steam traps, control valves, and occasionally work on commercial kitchen equipment - (Essential)
