This position is located in the Facility Management Department at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL. The Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the operation, maintenance and repair of the electronic HVAC systems utilized at the facility. Physical Effort: The incumbent of this position must be capable of lifting, carrying and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance. Will be required to work from ladders, scaffolding and/or platforms to accomplish assignments when systems are located in hard-to-reach places. May be required to work in close quarters or in cramped positions. Work requires hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate tools when assembling units and replacing defective components, coordination for reading and setting gauges, adjusting controls, etc., and color discrimination to recognize color codes. Work frequently requires stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling for long period of time.
Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks and/or other protective devices when exposure to infectious disease is possible. Other hazards include the possibility of electrical shock/burn; injuries to skin, eyes and lungs from refrigerants, gases, chemicals and solvents; and danger of cuts, scratches, and bruises. Exposure to dust, foul odors, dampness, and the hazards of power machinery are common during performance of daily assignments.

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
