OverviewThe Refrigeration (Reefer) Technician is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of refrigeration units on trailers and trucks. This includes performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, and ensuring that units operate efficiently and meet all DOT and customer standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with reefer systems and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and timely service. A Refrigeration Technician for TEC Equipment Leasing is responsible for delivering a customer experience in the Service department that ensures TEC is truly recognized as our customers Best Business Partner.
Responsibilities- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on refrigerated units (reefers) as well as standards trailer components. (E.g., brakes, lights, suspension, air systems.)
- Perform basic system checks such as power to compressor, condenser obstructions, belt tension, etc. Ability to identify refrigerant and oil leaks, as well as operate charging and recovery equipment.
- Verify units performance by conducting tests and adjusting controls & systems.
- Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. Must meet federal refrigeration/AC qualifications.
- Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Communicate frequently with Service Advisors, Parts, and supervisor to update on timeline of repairs.
- Follow warranty guidelines; understand how branch contains costs by using warranties and evaluating service & parts options.
- Follow branchs safety and standard operating procedures, and OSHA regulations, with limited supervision.
- Help management keep shop equipment operating by cleaning up after all jobs, returning tools and equipment to proper place, following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns/notifying supervisor of broken equipment, and maintaining supplies.
- Attend training & departmental meetings and be willing to attend trade shows and conferences if requested by management to stay up to date on company changes, industry trends and technological advances.
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of the refrigeration equipment industry and of all offerings of TEC in order to facilitate clear communication throughout the entire customer experience and provide customized business recommendations.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year refrigeration repair experience; 3+ years experience preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in identifying parts and components of refrigeration units
- Proven ability to disassemble, work on, and reassemble refrigeration units
- Ability to identify mechanical and electronic problems, make repairs, and offer a proper maintenance strategy
- Familiarity with electronic control systems and the appropriate tools needed to fix and maintain them
- Ability to work with a priority on safety at all times
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions & checklists and adhere to branchs standard operating procedures
- Ability to speak and write clearly in English
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment; Strong organizational and active listening skills; Ability to act as a team player
- Ability to obtain Commercial Driver License within 6 months of hire preferred but not required
- Ability to obtain a 608 certification preferred but not required
