Staff Mechanical Engineer, HVAC (EIT)

McMillen, Inc. is looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer, HVAC (EIT) to join our team. This role will support a variety of mechanical engineering tasks with an emphasis on HVAC systems, including design, analysis, and support during construction. HVAC systems will primarily be located in facilities such as hydroelectric powerhouses, fish hatchery buildings, and other, mainly non-residential, applications. The ideal candidate will be eager to contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team and grow their technical skills in HVAC and mechanical design for infrastructure projects. The Staff Engineer will work at the direction of project engineers applying various design engineering techniques, modeling methods, and construction support to deliver successful fisheries and water resource related projects for federal, local municipalities, and private utility companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Collects data and gathers relevant information or documentation to support design and analysis.
  • Performs standard computations and engineering analyses with a focus on HVAC systems and components.
  • Assists in HVAC design tasks including layout, equipment selection, and ductwork/piping systems.
  • Prepares technical drawings, diagrams, and visual aids to support engineering work.
  • Contributes to the preparation of permit applications, material testing plans, and CAD documentation.
  • Prepares portions of project documents such as HVAC system design reports and construction drawings.
  • Edits technical specifications with attention to HVAC standards and performance criteria.
  • Performs technical research and investigations to support HVAC system development.
  • Observes HVAC system installation and construction activities to ensure design compliance.
  • Performs basic field survey work as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT certification preferred and will be required within 1.5 years of hiring
  • 0-5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably with HVAC system design
  • Experience with water resources or hydro-related infrastructure a plus
  • Familiarity with HVAC design codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical documents, drawings, and specifications
  • Strong understanding of engineering and construction materials related to HVAC and hydro infrastructure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel up to 20%

Compensation Package:

  • Pay Range: $63,000 - $78,000 (DOE)
