Primary Purpose:

Under the direction of an experienced Journeyman Mechanic, the Mechanic Helper assists with repairs and adjustments to multiple types of coffee equipment; such as: automotive Vehicles, agricultural equipment/implements And various equipment used in coffee farm operations.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Must have a High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Must possess a valid Type 3 driver's license.

Must have some experience with Automotive and heavy equipment repair.

Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the assistance job functions.

Related/On The Job Training:

May be required to learn or know some/most skills of the trade, open to learning about technology, or any new installed equipment for understanding job functions.

Skills/Knowledge:

Must be able to understand and take direction in required instruction to complete jobs assigned to the duties required in the trade.

Prefer a working knowledge of types of shop equipment/tools used.

Must be able to work closely with the equipment shop mechanics and orchard/factory employees.

Must be aware of OSHA's requirements for a safe work place/area.

Experience/Education:

Verifiable work experience and/or education in a related field will be considered.

Hours of Work:

Must be able to work posted work schedule, and overtime if necessary.

Must utilize the established method in the assigned area to record work hours, start and finish times.

Trade Level Distinction: Group V - Helper

Performs tasks associated with the trade as requested.

Requires supervision and is able to, think, confirm and follow information related to work.

Completes work assigned by Lead journeyman Mechanic in allotted time based on instruction.

Applies learned information to assigned tasks.

Asks and has work approved at completion and is responsible for assignment(s).

Follows instruction, completes reports, and communicates status of work requests.

Performs tasks of average difficulty associated with the trade.

Requires frequent to occasional supervision but is able to independently, through skill and experience, solve a majority of problems related to work.

Completes work in average time.

Is responsible for the completion of work.

6 Months Performance Evaluation

Source & Nature of Supervision:

Is responsible to the Lead journeyman mechanic who gives work assignments.

Essential Duties/Functions:

Based on direction/instructions; uses tools and materials to be used for job assignment.

May assist in dismantling, overhauling, repairing and makes adjustments under direct direction to equipment

May operate equipment with training in assisting the loading, unloading and moving of equipment in the shop and factory.

Obtains material from Parts room and equipment yard.

Cleans up and maintains shop equipment and shop area.

Certification and/or licensing may be required, such as driver's license, professional license, or other.

Compliance with all House Rules, Company/Department Policies and Company/Union Agreements.

Compliance with all Federal, State, Local and Company safety, health and environmental regulations.

Regular attendance - Must report absence from work to Supervisor one hour prior to scheduled start time.

Absences related to Family Medical Leave Act must be reported to Human Resources.

Other Duties/Functions:

If trained or has training, may do minor welding and cutting when necessary.

Does other related work as instructed by supervisor.

Working Conditions: Exposed to variable weather conditions, such as sun, heat, rain, wind, dust, and other. Exposed to industrial work area conditions such as height, noise, heat, fumes, vibration, water and other.

Tools, Equipment and Materials used:

Tools & Equipment: Band saw, circular saw, sheet metal bender, hydraulic press, drill press, grinders, pipe threading machine, bridge crane, automotive lift, forklift, etc.; a variety of power-driven and hand tools used in the trade.

Materials: Shop machinery, automotive equipment, field and coffee factory equipment, pumps, engines, etc.
